When you buy an accounts package for the first time you are often venturing into unknown territory which is why it is important for peace of mind if nothing else, to have a Support & Maintenance Contract.

You are highly unlikely to experience technical difficulties with Big Red BookŪ. More questions arise from bookkeeping queries: e.g. a common support call is "how do I enter a credit note". A support contract will enable you to get the help you need in most cases as soon as you put a call through to our dedicated support team.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where do I put my lodgments?

To handle your lodgments, you must first register that you have received the money in the cash receipts book. The next step is to do a cash payment in order to lodge the money in the bank.

How do I look up my Bank Account?

To look up your Bank Account you can use the F9 button. Which will bring up the lookup menu. Choose the Bank Account option and then select the Bank account that you wish to see.

How do I tick off items in order to reconcile with my bank statement?

Again choose the F9 Key and then in the Lookup Menu, choose Bank Accounts and double Click on the Bank account that you wish to see. When you are in the Bank Account that you have selected, you then highlight the entry that you wish to tick off . To tick the item, use the space bar. Note if you accidentally ticked an item that you did not wish to select, you can deselect this by highlighting the entry and then using the space bar again.

How do I do a Credit Note?

First go to add a sales invoice in the Sales\Invoicing book, You then go Add and then where the invoice option is, you then click on the arrow button beside this and select the Credit Note option.

Some of my entries in the Cash Book seem to be missing?

When you are in the Cash Book, it may appear that some of your entries may appear on the screen. In order to see these entries, you will need to use the arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll up or down the Cash Receipts and Cash Payments. The blue line will shift from Cash receipts to Cash payment as they have been entered in the books.

How do I treat a Cheque Purchase in another Currency?

When purchasing goods in another currency say sterling, the idea is to make to entries in the Cheques Journal. The first entry is for the value of the amount in sterling. When the amount appears on the bank statement for a greater amount, you will need to add in another entry for the difference between the amount in sterling and the domestic currency. This can be analysis in Bank charges or Sundries, or if there was a large volume of transactions in sterling, it might be prudent to set up an analysis category called Sterling difference.
