Latest Payroll Updates

Big Red Book Payroll can notify you each time an update is available. As Big Red Book Payroll is a real-time PAYE reporting application, updates should be run without delay as they are required to ensure that Payroll and ROS remain synchronised, as well as to allow fixes and improvements to be installed.

Should you not get this ‘Update Available’ notification when opening Big Red Book Payroll you should check the Help Menu in Payroll under Help > Check for Update and click the option to ‘Switch On Auto Check’.

The latest update can also be downloaded from here and installed manually.

CSO Returns:
Fixes an issue seen when producing a CSO Return when there is a 0.00 Net Payment.

Software Upgrade
Due to Changes being made in Payroll 2023, some elements of Payroll 2022 have been updated

Print Payslips
Fixed an issue with the date selector when printing payslips.
EWSS End Date
The EWSS Flag will no longer be included in submissions for payments dated after the final closing date of May 31st 2022.
Anonymous Backups
Fixed issue with creating Anonymous Backups and the email to Support option.

EWSS Public Health Restrictions Changes
Allow for the EWSS PHR flag on submissions for eligible employees for paydates on or after February 1st 2022.
Added a Resubmit utility to assist users in sending the correct flag for payments submitted before the EWSS PHR flag goes live on Revenue’s end. This will not be seen in Payroll until the PHR flag goes live.
Guides have been added to the Helpfile to assist users to setup for EWSS PHR and use the Resubmit utility.

Other Changes
Fixed an issue with the new employee wizard where the No PPSN check would always show an issue.
The Print Payslips screen will now show payslips for the defaulted pay period on opening.

Reporting

New Report – Summary by Date Range
Added a new Summary Report. Similar to the Period to Date Summary, this allows the report to be retrieved for any date range.
Cease Employment
Fixed an issue where the ‘Cease Employment’ button might be hidden when an employee is ceased directly on ROS

Changes to PRSI rates
In line with the increase in National Minimum Wage, the upper weekly threshold for paying the 8.80% Class A rate of employer PRSI was increased from to €410 for payments from 1st January 2022.
Emergency Tax
Due to Income Tax Cut Rate increases, the emergency tax rate has been increased to €708 per week, €3,067 per month, for applicable payments.
New Employee Wizard
We have added a Wizard to assist in entering the basic details required for an employee.
Find/Sort Employees
We have improved how we display the Sort by for Employees.
Added a ‘Go To’ Employee Number option.
Find will now offer searching by First Name, Last Name and PPSN.
Importing Company Data
Improved the process for importing a company from the previous year.
Added the option to import previous holiday records.
Rename of Companies during import process will now be allowed.
Other Changes
Added a new Desktop Shortcut Icon, created when Payroll 2022 is first installed.
Helpfiles will now be stored in the Payroll Year Folder.
Hid GCD and Employer Unit Number in Settings > Company Information.
